Open Access
First Base is CDP’s Open Access service. It provides highly skilled services in rapid assessment, brief intervention, harm reduction and overdose advice, problem solving and triage.
Open Access provides:
- Wide range of accurate, appropriate and factual information on drugs and their effect to drug users, concerned others and professionals
- Information that is accessible and meaningful in terms of context, language, literacy level and comprehensibility. Advice and information may be provided by a variety of methods, including verbal, written and audio-visual aids (e.g. videos); given face-to-face or by telephone.
- Information, advice and support for those misusing drugs to remain healthy, until, with appropriate support, they can achieve a drug free life
- Advice and support to reduce problems related to drug misuse, including health, social, psychological and legal problems. We also provide educational and preventative interventions and health promotion advice
- Access to practical supportive measures for harm reduction and for accessing health and social care
- Advice and support to reduce the dangers associated with drug misuse, including respiratory problems, HIV, hepatitis B and C and other blood-borne infections
- Advice and support for reducing drug-related death (immediate death such as overdose, and long-term such as blood-borne infections)
- Advice on safer sex and reducing the risks of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections
- Information about other drug (and alcohol) misuse treatment services and referral where appropriate
First Base is at 61 Spring Bank, Hull HU3 1AG and its opening hours are:
Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 09:00 to 16:30
Wednesday and Thursday from 11:30 to 19:00

From April 2006 to March 2007, we had 1,087 telephone enquiries (a 9.6% increase on the previous year) and we saw 1,047 people (up 7.4%).
27% of service users were not previously known to the service.
